After the scenic train journey across Switzerland, we reached the ski resort of Zermatt to stay for a few days. It was the end of ski season and not quite the start of summer hiking season, but there was still bright and clear weather for seeing the famous Matterhorn mountain.

The cable cars that are used for the ski season also run in the summer to take you high above the village for hiking, giving good views across the mountains.

So we did some short hikes up above and around the village to take in all the views. The town itself is a pleasant place to stay with some very nice comfortable ski lodges and apartments, you could see the Matterhorn from our balcony.

There are still lots of the traditional mountain huts in the village, some very traditional, which some more modern and restored.

One more good view of the Matterhorn on a sunny clear day…
