After the first two test matches in the cricket, I returned to the south of India. To fly from Chennai to Colombo to come to Sri Lanka for two weeks. Once I arrived at the airport, I took a taxi straight down the coast for 90 minutes to the beachside village of Bentota.
The homestay I had booked turned out to be a beautiful spot; looking over the river, set 10 minutes walk back from the beach.
One evening, we had a beautiful home-cooked meal with rice and curry, grilled fish and prawns.
Next to Bentota is Aluthgama village, where we had a look at all the tropical fruits in the market. The photo below was at the Kande Vihara Buddhist temple.
The railway runs all the way along the coast, heading south from Colombo to Galle. The hotels are set back on the road, and then you walk over railway and down to the beach.
The beach runs along for a couple of kilometres it was clean and pretty, with great weather.
