Melaka (again), Malaysia

It had been many years since I visited Melaka, back in late 2012. So I thought it was worth seeing again to see if much has changed.

Melaka is still very picturesque with traditional old houses and shop fronts. The main tourist street, Jonker Walk, is packed at the weekend with street markets all the way along it, plenty to eat, drink and shop, it makes for a good atmosphere.

I had an excellent rendang in a local restaurant, very well presented with 4 different flavoured and coloured rice. Whilst the presentation was very good, so was the taste too, with a good spicy beef rendang, and the more subtle different styles of rice complimenting the dish.

As you can see there was a variety of different streets with numerous bars and restaurants, very pleasant sitting outside in these quiet lanes to enjoy some food or drinks.

Whilst alot of buildings in Melaka have been restored or preserved, not all have. Whilst this old building needs some attention, it still shows off some great classic design.

I think the walkway next to the river has been improved, as I do not remember this from my previous visit, although that was over 12 years ago. Nowadays its possible to walk alongside the river for quite a few kilometers, often with cafes, bars or restaurants overlooking the river.
