Walking Mcleod Ganj, India

As the final cricket test was in Dharamshala, I spent a good couple of weeks staying up in Mcleod Ganj, having previously been here in 2014 Mcleod Ganj, Dharamshala.

The weather upon arrival at the start of March, was still very wintery, cold and wet, and there was concern for the cricket match. However, the sun came out in the second week of March and started to warm things up. As I had been here before, I knew it was a comfortable and pleasant place to spend the remaining time of this India trip. Plenty of good Tibetan food and plenty of walks.

This view here is a very pleasant walk through the forest west from Mcleod Ganj, through the forest and around Naddi village. There is a great view point up the top of Naddi village, as seen here. I took a different route returning to pass by the small Dal Lake.Perhaps the most popular and famous day hike in the area, is to Triund view point. I did do this hike before in 2014 and its easy enough in one day, about 8km up, and 8km down so 16km total with a fair bit of climbing.  This time with it being much earlier on in the year, the last 1km or so was still covered in snow and ice, so it made for a tricky final ascent, but the views were worth it.
The weather continued to improve in to March, with another great view here looking west over to Kareri, taken from near the Gullu Temple. There is plenty of nice cafes and restaurants around Mcleod Ganj, and some nice shorter walks too, there is a good loop behind the Dalai Lama temple. This is a short walk but very pretty with many Tibetan prayer flags and prayer wheels along the route to turn whilst walking and reflecting. This final photo is taken in the forest a little west from Mcleod Ganj, on the way to Naddi via the forest, and it notable for the Tibetan prayer flag temple that covers the forest here.A great few final weeks in India, to wrap up my winter trip. Aswell as the cricket, good food and plenty of walks around the area make it easy to spend a few weeks in this area.
