Hadrian’s Wall hike, England

Another short trip hiking with a good couple of mates, along the Hadrian’s Wall walking path. The route itself does run from coast to coast, however the slightly more interesting sections with abit more history and remains of walls are inbetween Carlisle and Hexham.

The first day was relative easy, a 20km stretch from Carlisle to the village of Walton. This first picture was taken late afternoon as we made our way to a small hostel, having stopped at a countryside pub for some food.

The next day, we walked a 29km stretch between Walton to The Sill. The Sill is a tourist information centre for Hadrians Wall as well as there being a hostel, located about 5km from Haltwhistle. It was along this part of the route that was saw numerous ruins and sections of the wall, and passed by Birdoswald, the remains of a Roman Fort.

Some fantastic views along this part of the route. Another day of around 25km, as we diverted south away from the wall to go to a hostel in a nearby village, called Newbrough.

We also saw some of the town of Hexham as we walked to here on the final morning to take the train home.
