Busan & a temple stay, South Korea

So before heading south to Busan from Gyeongju, I headed south east towards the coast, to do a temple stay experience.

I would only stay the night, but had to arrive just after lunch, for some activities in the afternoon. The Golgulsa temple has become a popular temple stay for tourists due to the style of buddhist martial art, known as Senmudo. So it was this we watched a demostration of in the afternoon, before practising ourselves.

This was the view from the temple complex, surrounded by forest and hills. After spending the night and waking early for meditation and then breakfast, we got taken to the nearby beach for some meditation and stretching.

It was a short but good experience, and something I would definitely recommend to others, perhaps even staying for a couple of nights to have more time to take in the experience and culture of staying at the temple.

From the Golgulsa temple I headed south on the bus. The weather was great when I reached Busan, and I walked a good section of the coast inbetween different areas of the city.

The city is a great mix of new and old, from the fish market and local markets, to the newer malls and shops.

Busan also has a great city beach too, known as Haeundae beach. So the nearly 2 weeks across South Korea seemed to have gone quickly, across Seoul, Gyeongju, Golgulsa and Busan. It was a good first time in South Korea, and it would be easy to spend more time in the country to enjoy a range of activities, hiking, temple stays, or more places around Seoul.
