Heading west from Salzburg back in to Germany, first I returned to Stuttgart so I could catch another Bundesliga football match. Stuttgart drew 1-1 with Bayer Leverkusen at the Mercedez-Benz Arena, originally known as Neckerstadion.
I visited the Stadtbibliothek am Mailander Platz whilst in Stuttgart, and was stunned by this brilliant piece of modern design, which was great for photography.
I can’t remember what this cake was called, but I had good cake and coffee on numerous occasions in Germany!
From Stuttgart I back tracked south to Füssen, however there was going to be some DB rail strikes this day. This meant I took 4 local trains instead of a higher speed route, but turned out to be great fun seeing the scenary on the small branch line rails. I ended up taking a train back into Austria and then walking back 5km over the border to Füssen.
I was in Füssen to visit the nearby castles, Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein. However the day I was hiking it ended up pouring down and I got soaked, so did not end up getting a good view of the castles, but a good landscape shot here never the less.
So more not so great weather here as I hiked south of Munich, but at least I got to try Kaiserschmarrn. Popular in Bavaria and Austria, it translates as scrambled pancake, traditionally served with fruit puree like the apple I had here. It was a tasty hot treat to warm me up on this cold hike.
