Florence & Pisa, Italy

Florence & Pisa are beautiful Italian cities that can easily be combined in one short break. Many budget flights go to Pisa Airport, where we landed. From here you can transfer to Florence by bus or train taking just under 90 minutes.

The focal point of Florence is the Duomo or cathedral. It is possible to stay right in the centre of town, we had an airbnb just one block from the cathedral.

After seeing the famous Ponte Vecchio bridge, continue walking south of the river to Piazzale Michelangelo. Continue further up the hill to Basilica di San Miniato al Monte. It is from here you will get one of the best views out across the city.

Florence is a beautiful old italian city, that obviously attracts a lot of tourism. October seemed a good time to visit though, which helps to avoid the peak season of the summer holidays.

After a few days we took the train back to Pisa. Here we stayed in an apartment not far from the train station, for an easy connection back to the airport when departing.

Walking north from Pisa station you cross the river Arno, through the town to reach the Piazza dei Miracoli. Which is home to the famous leaning tower of Pisa, alongide the cathedral and baptistry. These are a UNESCO world heritage sight, and much more impressive than the photos can depict.

Another little thing to look out for in Pisa is the Keith Haring muriel not far from the train station.
